Gut Loving Kombucha Maple Bircher

You guys are always asking me about gut healthy recipes so I wanted to share one of my favourite ones with you today! It combines delicious kombucha, high fibre chia seeds and juicy sultanas from Kellogg’s Sultana Bran. Firstly, let’s quickly touch on why fibre is SO important for good gut health.


Fibre is the only nutrient that makes it all the way to the gut still intact – this is where the gut bacteria go to work, breaking it down and producing compounds that help to keep us healthy. Fibre from our diet feed the good bacteria in our gut and help them to grow and multiple in numbers.  Keeping our gut bugs happy is vital for our overall health and wellbeing and taking care of it doesn’t need to be complicated – in fact, it’s quite simple. Fibre and especially grain fibre is a key food source for the good bacteria in your gut, so it’s easier and cheaper than you think to support your gut health. Breakfast cereals that are high in fibre (like Kellogg’s Sultana Bran) are a great place to start. I hope you enjoy this delicious gut loving breakfast recipe below.

Gut Loving Kombucha Maple Bircher

  • 4 tbsp Kellogg's Sultana Bran
  • 3 tbsp plain rolled oats
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 apple, grated with the skin left on
  • 1/2 cup kombucha
  • 1/2 cup of milk (cows, oat, soy or almond)
  • 1-2 tsp maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp fresh raspberries


1. Combine all ingredients, except the berries, in a mason jar
2. Stir and then seal tightly
3. Refrigerate overnight
4. The following morning, remove the jar from the refrigerator and give it a quick stir
5. Open jar and enjoy with berries on top
Variation: Chopped nuts are a great addition to add crunch and additional healthy fats. Shredded coconut is also another tasty topping
